Thornford School is so proud of the highly supportive parental involvement with our school and welcome any parent / carer to join our friendly, sociable committee.
FTS – Who Are They?
The PTA (parent, teacher association) for the school. A committee of willing, helpful parents, carers and teachers. The FTS is a charity.
What Do They Do ?
Organise events for the school to raise funds for those things that, in a climate of ever-increasing budget cuts, the school cannot afford. This year and next there will be a particular focus on raising funds to install an all-weather running track on the playing field. Every single penny raised goes to the school for the next exciting project!
What Sort of Events Do They Organise ?
The FTS organise a variety of events each year and are always grateful for new suggestions. Examples are
· school discos,
· Christmas and Summer fayres,
· bingo,
· Sponsored events, e.g. non-school uniform days,
· Easter and Halloween competitions,
· Story nights.
They’ll be letting you know about forthcoming events.
What do They Do With The Funds Raised
Funds raised are used to enhance your child’s educational journey through the school. Recent examples are
· improving the KS1 play area and KS2 play area repairs,
· a contribution towards the canopy in Acorn class,
· new books and sports equipment,
· Christmas plays,
· A contribution towards school trips.
In addition, the FTS fund those extra, fun activities that the children love, for instance Easter egg hunts and class Christmas gifts and crackers.
We need you!
Please consider joining the committee or helping to prepare/run fundraising events. The FTS would love you to be involved – every little helps!
What Does a Committee Member do?
The committee is responsible for running the charity and the organisation and running of events. There are meetings approximately once a term.
Why Become a Committee Member ?
To meet other parents and make new friends, learn more about your child’s journey through the school, maintain the wonderful community feel of this lovely village school, help to enhance your child’s school experience.
Who Can Become a Member?
Any parent, carer or teacher– no qualifications required, just enthusiasm, a willingness to help and the ability to give a little time from your busy schedule. It’s always to easy to leave it to someone else and say you don’t have time, however the more members and helpers that come forward the easier it is for everyone.
If you are interested in finding out more please contact either Karen Hughes/Malena Davies (Joint FTS Chair) in person or on FTS@thornford.dorset.sch.uk. Alternatively, please feel free to speak to the school office. Whether you are able to help or not, it would be a good idea to join the Friends of Thornford School Facebook page to keep up to date.
Even if you are unable to help please support the events arranged by the FTS, as the more money raised the more projects the FTS can support!
