Welcome to Oak Class

Years 5 & 6

Teachers:  Miss S Gibbs, Teaching Assistant:  Mrs Z Dycer

Welcome to the Summer Term 2026

Maafa and Revolution

Our main topic for the first half of this term is Maafa. This project teaches children about the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the involvement and impact on Britain. The second half of the Summer Term the topic will be Revolution. This topic follows on from the KS1 topic about the Victorians and will look at the Industrial Revolution. The sequence of these topics will enable the children to make links between history projects creating a narrative to embed understanding and knowledge.

The companion projects this term are:
Science – Human Reproduction and Ageing
Art – Trail Blazers, Still Life and Victorian Portraits

Please see the curriculum overview below for an overview of all of the areas of learning for this school year in Oak class.

Oak Class Information

Communications and upcoming events will be on Class dojo.

Homework and Home Learning

Maths: We will be using White Rose Infinity to set maths homework. The children will either be set a quiz on a topic we have coming up or one we have just covered. Either way please encourage them to do this independently.

Reading Rewards

We would like pupils to be reading at home at least 3 times a week and be recording this in their reading records. They can do this themselves. However, having conversations with them about what they are reading will develop their comprehension skills.
