Acorn class 26th May 2017
News from week beginning 22nd May
We have had another busy week in Acorn Class this week, with two special events for the parents: the phonics show and tell and our class assembly. Thank you to everyone who came to both, we hope you enjoyed them!
In phonics this week in Reception (as some of you saw!) we continued to work in Phase 4 of the Letters and Sounds programme with a particular focus on reading and writing 2-syllable and CVCC and CCVC words like tent and frog. In Year One we best-betted words, talking about when words just look wrong; we looked at alternative ways of writing the s sound – ss, sc, c and s and we talked about alternative spellings of the ar sound e.g. calf.
In maths this week we looked at place value talking about tens and ones, for example discussing that in 77 there are 7 tens and 7 ones. A favourite activity was making the place value daisies that we showed you in our assembly as this involved cutting and sticking too!
In other news we practised, practised, practised for our assembly and in art we drew oil pastel jungle pictures in the style of Henri Rousseau. In RE we acted out a Shabbat ceremony including pretending to light candles, eat special food, drink grape juice, rest, play games and sing songs. Then the children wrote Shabbat prayers thanking God for letting them have rest time, eating special meals and spending time with their family. Finally, in science we started writing a diary for the beans that we planted last week, 5 are already shooting!
Have a wonderful half term, we look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 5th June for our last half term of the school year.
