Acorn class 18th November 2016
News from week beginning 14th November
Another busy week in Acorn Class…
In Design and Technology we planned and made a junk model of our choice. There were trains, handbags, people and vans with windscreens and ladders on the top – clearly we have some very imaginative and creative children in our class!
In English the children learned the story of The Princess and the Pea. Instead of listening to me read the story the children learned story making actions for key words so that they could re-tell the story orally. They also made lolly stick puppets for the different characters in the story which they showed off proudly in today’s Parent Assembly. I’m sure you will agree that these are fantastic and all very unique.
In Maths we learned the days of the week, months of the year and the four seasons. The children even filmed weather reports on the iPads today which was brilliant fun.
The Year One children learned how to write number names this week and continued to revise tricky words in phonics. The Reception children learned ch, sh, th and ng and the tricky words we, me and be.
We have also been learning the songs for our Nativity play, our favourite so far being ‘Gee up camel’. Rehearsals will start in earnest next week but please be reassured that the PE session on a Tuesday will not be stopping for the three weeks leading up to our performances, it will just be a shorter session.
Last but not least, as you can see in the photo your children have been using their tastebuds again this week. This time we carried out a scientific experiment involving jelly tots…. See if your child can tell you what we were up to!
Enjoy your weekend and I look forward to seeing all the children on Monday.
