Acorn class

News from week beginning 3rd October

This week was the Reception children’s first full week at school and we are so proud of how well they have settled into school life. Our activities this week centred around the lovely Julia Donaldson book, The Paper Dolls. The children enjoyed making their own paper dolls using lots of collage materials and a photograph of their own faces and we have displayed these in the classroom in what was before a very boring white space! We also wrote captions for our paper dolls, thus practising writing our own names and made story maps which re-tell the story in pictures rather than words.

In Maths we continued our number work, using Numicon and number cards to order and compare numbers.

Yr R children learned o, c and k in phonics and the high frequency word ‘and’. Their letter formation and blending are both developing well, supported by you reading with them and practising their homework sheets at home – thank you. Yr 1 children revised the sounds ow, oi and ear and sorted tricky words into real and nonsense categories to help them when they are writing them e.g. which is the real word ‘my’ or ‘migh’?

The Y1 children also learned how to write an address this week and all of the children learned our Harvest Festival song ‘Pizza Delivery Man’. I am sure you will agree that they were all fantastic performing in Church today, as was Mrs Cheyne..!

Have a wonderful weekend, I look forward to seeing all of the children bright and early on Monday morning 🙂
