Acorn class 5th January 2018
News from week beginning 1st January
We hope you had a lovely Christmas break. The children have returned to school full of enthusiasm. They loved telling us then writing about their favourite Christmas present and what they got up to on Christmas Day.
In Phonics the Reception children learned the tricky word ‘my’ and the new sounds ow, ur and oa. The Year One children revised the last few sounds and tricky words before moving onto Phase 5 of the Letters and Sounds Programme next week. They also practised using letter names for the alphabet and had a super Guided Reading session – we are so pleased with how their reading is progressing, thank you for your support at home.
In Maths they have been learning positional language (such as in, on, next to, in front of, behind, under) and some children now know their left and right! They had a super time using the coding robots, Beebot and Bluebot, and using the coding app, Beebot. The children have concentrated hard on giving instructions to direct the robots to their treasure.
In PE they warmed up to Uptown Funk – what amazing groovers they are! Lots of wiggling bottoms and stamping to the beat! They then excitedly completed an obstacle course set out by Mr Cuff, our Sports Apprentice.
The children made their own collages using tissue paper and drew a picture of themselves to go on the collage. These look striking and are proudly on show on the conservatory windows!
Our Science topic this half term is ‘materials’ so we started off by finding objects around the classroom made from different materials such as wood, plastic, glass, metal and fabric. The children then sorted them into groups in hoops! See main photo.
We look forward to seeing lots of the YR children at the first Jelly Beans Club on Tuesday. Please can we ask that you are prompt with collecting them at 4pm each week as that is when our Staff Meeting starts!
Have a great weekend!
