Acorn class

News from week beginning 19th June

Another busy (and very hot!) week in Acorn Class…

This week in Phonics the Reception children worked on the consonant clusters br and bl; revised all of the tricky words that we have learnt and focused on writing sentences that had capital letters and full stops in the right places. In Year One the children worked on reading and writing split digraphs such as the e-e split digraph in ‘concrete’ and revised the four handwriting families.

In Maths this week our topic was capacity. The children have had a brilliant time filling up containers in the sand pit and the water tray, counting how many spoonfuls or cupfuls it took to fill them right up to the top! They also used multi link cubes to investigate the capacity of everyday containers and read and recorded the volume of water that pre-filled jugs contained.

In English we researched pandas. First we thought of some interesting questions about things that we wanted to find out about these endangered animals and then we found answers to them on the National Geographic Kids website. Finally the children wrote non-fiction pages to share the information that they had found out complete with labelled panda pictures!

In other news, in Design and Technology we made split pin elephant masks that have moving trunks and we had two special assemblies, one about Hinduism and one about road safety.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Pink, Mrs Cheyne and Mrs Dennett 🙂
