Acorn class 19th May 2017
News from week beginning 15th May
Another busy week in Acorn Class…
In phonics the Reception children have continued to work within Phase 4 of the Letters and Sounds programme, focusing on reading and writing more complex words. In Year One the children revised the alternative oo sound ue as in statue, the alternative f sound ph as in dolphin and the ch sound tch as in hutch.
In English we learnt the story making story ‘Monkey See, Monkey Do’ which is all about a hat seller and some very naughty monkeys! We learnt actions to help us remember the story, made lolly stick puppets of monkeys and hat sellers and drew story maps this week.
In Maths we looked at halving in different contexts. We learnt how to halve a number; we halved a quantity of objects by sharing them into two equal groups; we made play doh pizzas and cut them into half (and then quarters and then eighths once we got into the swing of it!) and we folded different shapes in half to see what they looked like.
In other news we painted butterflies in art, we enjoyed a “Mad science” assembly on Thursday morning and we planted seeds in Science (thank you to Steve from Castle Gardens for his help with this).
Wow what a busy week!
Have a wonderful weekend and please remember that on Tuesday morning there will be a phonics show and tell session for parents, please come along to watch our learning in action if you are able to.
