Acorn class

News from week beginning 16th January

What a busy week in Acorn Class!

In phonics, Reception children revised the short oo sound and learnt the new sounds ow and oi and revised all of the tricky words that they have been taught. In Year One, the children learnt the alternative spellings ie, oy and ir as well as the tricky words Mr, Mrs, looked, called and asked. They also learnt about apostrophes and -ed as a word ending.

In Maths we focussed on positional language. The children used beebot and bluebot to practise their positional language (see if they can tell you what these are if you aren’t sure!) and they also gave each other directions to find hidden objects which was great fun.

In English the children first designed and labelled a healthy sandwich, then made and ate their sandwich (the best part) and last of all they wrote a list of instructions to tell someone else how to make their sandwich using bossy verbs.

The children also watched the Gryphon Music Roadshow on Tuesday morning, where a number of very talented students performed for them. The children particularly enjoyed listening to the choir singing and the big band playing Proud Mary!

Have a lovely weekend
