Acorn class 13th January 2017
News from week beginning 9th January
This week was anti-bullying week. We talked about and enacted scenarios related to bullying and how to deal with it. The children were insightful discussing other people’s feelings.
We had a talk from the NSPCC and their fluffy mascot, Buddy. The children sat really well and answered questions where they could. The children then created a poem which they recited beautifully in Parents’ Assembly.
In phonics, Reception children welcomed back Sidney the Snake to help them learn the new sounds oo, ar, ur and oa and the tricky word my. In Year One, the children started on Phase 5 of the Letters and Sounds programme, learning the alternative spellings ay, ou and ea as well as the tricky words oh, their and people.
In Maths we focussed on subtraction. The children used Numicon, die, number cards, number spinners, dominos and iPads to help them.
In Geography the children discussed the weather and wrote about what their favourite weather is.
Following on from the fabulous homework on Superheroes (thank you parents for your time on this!), the children wrote a superhero passport – showing their superhero name (we asked the Year Ones to alliterate their superhero name), their address, their superpower and their enemy’s name. The results were brilliant, funny and sometimes scary!
Have a lovely weekend
