Acorn class 9th December 2016
News from week beginning 5th December
This week in Acorn Class we have been practising our Nativity play in earnest in preparation for our two performances next week…
In Phonics the Reception children revised more of the trickier digraphs from two weeks ago – ee, or, ai and igh. We also revised all of the tricky words that we have learnt so far. Year One children were digraph spotting; discussing when and where ff, ss, ll and zz are used in words; reading silly sentences and substituting words in sentences and seeing whether the sentences still made sense.
In English the children made Christmas cards and wrote messages inside them. This is however TOP SECRET so the less said about it the better!
In Maths we investigated doubling numbers. The children used dominos, Numicon and number cards to write doubling number sentences and they have also created a wonderful display in the classroom of ladybirds which have the same number of spots on each side of their wing casements.
On Monday afternoon in Collective Worship the children took part in our Christingle service where the whole school celebrated Jesus Christ as the ‘Light of the World’. The children showed remarkable self restraint by not eating any of the sweets from their Christingle oranges during the service and we hope that they enjoyed them (and the orange) once they got them home!
Have a wonderful weekend.
