School Ethos, Values and Aims

(Linked to our UNICEF ‘Rights Respecting Schools Award)

The distinctive nature of our school is fully expressed in our Mission Statement which reads:

“Thornford School is a Church of England School; it is a caring community based on Christian principles and family values.

The children are valued as individuals and encouraged to develop their full potential through a range of good quality educational experiences ”

We have one School Golden Charter which we install in all our pupils:

“Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself”

Aims of the School

♦ We work to develop the whole child in a secure and happy atmosphere.

♦ We encourage children to develop lively, enquiring minds, question and argue rationally, apply themselves and therefore learn effectively.

♦ We help children to become responsible, caring individuals but still respect the values of others.

♦ We foster a positive attitude towards the community and help the children to develop a sense of place within it.

♦ We help the children to explore the spiritual values at the heart of the Christian faith through worship at school and in church.
